I’ve honestly thought about this for a while, and I really appreciate you being open enough to ask me something like that. I don’t want to give you an answer that could make you misunderstand how I feel, because I’d rather be completely honest with you than say something just because I’m scared of hurting your feelings. You’re genuinely a good person, and I respect you a lot, but the kind of feelings you’re asking about just aren’t there for me. I care about you, and I can appreciate everything about you without feeling that deeper connection that would make me want a relationship. I don’t want to pretend that I feel something when I don’t, because that would only make things more complicated later. You deserve someone who can look at you and feel exactly the same way you feel about them, without hesitation or confusion. I really hope you don’t take this as me disrespecting you or thinking badly of you, because that isn’t what I mean at all. Sometimes two people can get along, care about each other, enjoy talking, and still not have those particular feelings for one another. I think that’s simply where I stand, and I’d rather be honest about it now than create expectations that I can’t fulfill later. I genuinely hope you understand where I’m coming from and that this doesn’t make things awkward between us.
