Wait, the US thinks that $2,800 is heavily investing in employee training? I am in a developing country and just enrolled 3 staff in a 12 month course costing $50,000.

I had a co pay for something that totaled nearly $20K, and my agreement was that I wouldn’t quit for 12 mo & there was no pro-rated clause. What I didn’t know when I was hired & they paid the $18K+ was that the co had sold off the business unit I was joining, that they signed an agreement w/ the new co that all the employees being transferred as part of the BU would not be hired back for 5 yrs (!), and that the new co planned to relocate the BU to a different state. I didn’t want to move, and all my co-workers who didn’t want to move either were quitting and taking up the currently avail jobs. By the time the co terminated me- because I couldn’t quit-there were no more local jobs in my area of expertise. I had to find a lower paying job because I was less qualified for it when the co had basically decided they were terminating me. Either full disclosure up front or waiving the repayment clause would have been the right thing to do. I would not have accepted the job & moved there if I’d known they were selling the BU & moving it to a state I didn’t want to live in.

Same thing happens to me. They withheld my final check and tried to bill me an additional 5k. Withholding my pay is illegal in my state. Attorney sent them a letter stating how with all the penalties they’d owe me. Got my direct deposit the following day.

Never do an exit interview. If they weren’t willing to receive feedback while you’re employed, they don’t deserve the information when you’re leaving.
