I think you are sort of conflating/missing the point a bit. Our ability to innovate is largely grounded on what we know. If we leave that full reliance to these “models,” how can we expect to deal with an unexpected or a nuanced patient that walks through our door. It doesn’t matter how much knowledge of medicine is available for AI online, there’s too much we don’t know.

Learned very early on in school that doing well didn’t necessarily mean being smart or creative. It mostly came down to memorizing algorithms and factoids. And when ai came out I instantly knew the field was in trouble. Those who actually think doing well on these things and memorizing a bunch of facts makes them a genius fail to recognize just how much of a threat ai is.

I agree that AI eliminates clinical knowledge and pattern recognition as skillsets, which inherently makes a career in medicine seem kind of useless. Do you think that medicine should reward charismatic people, or people who are incredibly handy (surgical fields)? Things that AI can’t do/have increasing liabilities to partake in?
