@willz.talks: The central question in American discourse , as long as America has so much power, will be how that power is used. It would be beautiful to be able to have a divorced, abstract discussion about the use of force and specific details but that is NOT the discussion being had. The question is whether you think America should expand its v**lence against Palestinians or not. And to that the answer should be a resounding NO, and you should support Palestinians in enforcing that NO.
That’s not how citizens’ relationship with empire works. Empathy extended to all is a challenge to empire. This is why international human rights law is the right frame; it gives you the grounding to confront injustice wherever it exists without excusing injustice

It’s because we have phone cameras and more technology we used to record what happened. That’s why we’re reminded and asked to remember. Part of the reason the Vietnam war was seen in such a negative light here in the USA at the time more than any other war is because of the large number of journalists and photographers who documented it and reported it to the public.

I would totally be okay with the American “empire” having permission to stop attacks against civilians, if such a thing could be done. I condemn the targeting of civilians, regardless of which country they belong to.
