@therecount: Things are getting a little salty up in Maine. During Tuesday’s first Maine U.S. Senate debate, Republican incumbent Susan Collins pointed to her efforts to get Canadian road salt exempted from President Trump’s tariffs. She said it was an example of her delivering for Maine, arguing the move would save towns and businesses money. Democratic challenger Troy Jackson said the exemption wasn’t enough because Mainers are still paying more for other everyday items, such as groceries, because of Trump’s tariffs. Collins, a five-term Republican incumbent, is trying to hold onto her Senate seat in a state Trump lost in 2024. Her relationship with Trump is a central issue in the race, with Jackson arguing she hasn’t done enough to oppose his policies. Collins contends she has a bipartisan streak and has broken with the president and the party on issues like tariffs and abortions. #collins #susancollins #maine #senate #debate
