Ash brought me to you! ❤️❤️I’m beginning to like Ash more and more as I learn more about him. I like that he’s crediting local expertise, his full team, etc

I’m neutral (leaning toward skeptical) about him, but I’m curious to know how you feel about his use of the expression “the heart of darkness” to describe this trip. As an outsider I thought it was an odd choice to evoke pith-helmet-wearing Victorians by referencing that book. Is there something I’m missing with this choice of words?

I have to actively avoid the comments on his videos due to the amount of conspiracy theories, entitlement, everyone thinking they’re more informed than him as if he wouldn’t have done research, and just pure slop (why are there 15 comments with the same reaction picture taking attendance??). I think he’s doing something truly special and crazy and amazing, and the people of TikTok see it purely for their entertainment. It’s so weird. Like he’d do this with or without TikTok, just like he did with his prior projects.

I definitely don’t think he’s a clout chaser. You can see the happiness in his eyes when he talks about his expeditions. This is what makes him happy and he does the subscriptions and everything else because he needs money to pay for these expeditions and people just don’t get that.

If you haven’t watch Blood Diamond you should. Yes, the war portrayed in Blood Diamond is structurally very similar to the long-standing conflict in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). While they are two completely separate wars fought by different groups in different regions, they share identical core drivers, tragic human costs, and economic mechanics. The movie will give you a taste of what’s going on over there.

Yes and he led me to you where I can learn more. I’m incredibly grateful for this opportunity to learn and grow as a human. I understand the other side of the argument, but I’m with you in the fact that it will highlight so much. I know it shouldn’t have to take a white man to pique our interest. But I’m ready to see real footage of a place I’ll likely never be able to afford to see. 💯💪✊🫡
