@brightbelters: Warnersville, Greensboro’s first planned Black American community, grew after the Civil War as Black families purchased land, built homes, opened businesses, and sustained churches and schools. Bennett College began in a Warnersville church basement in 1873. Urban renewal in the 1960s and 1970s displaced hundreds of families and removed much of the neighborhood’s built landscape. Its community ties and memories continued. In 2015, Greensboro recognized Warnersville as its first Heritage Community. Through the Bright Belt Heritage Project, we’re documenting this Greensboro story as part of Black life in North Carolina’s central Piedmont. Does your family have Warnersville roots or memories of J.C. Price School? My great-grandparents were apart of establishing the Warrnersville community. I still have a flyer from a 1970 event.

Very rich history. Been apart of the community since we moved here. Unfortunately the reconstruct is happening once again, slowly but surely. Thanks for this🖤
