@moviegoodormoviebad: Thank you @danielfilmtherapy for putting this on my radar, because the use of generative AI in independent film is especially embarassing! #generativeai #indiefilm #filmfestival #everytime #filmtok
what are your thoughts on use of ai to match voice tracks for foreign language films

Yeah, they used the Suno sounds for the commercials featured in the movie. which feels like such a small amount for some, but huge for me. Thanks for bringing more attention to this. Breaks my heart cuz it’s a beautiful movie

I was going to watch it at LFF and review it - but maybe I’ll give it a miss. What a shame!

i go to a university lucky enough to have regular film premieres through our cinema school, and the first one i saw this year was from a young Kenyan-Swiss director who shot this film and flooded it with AI-augmentation, then he lazily answered questions at the panel afterwards about generative AI “lowering the bar” and making filmmaking more accessible. i was just put in the worst mood opening my semester this way, i felt so deceived. and now just this week another film premiered on campus whose entire script was written by AI trained on the works of Werner Herzog, so obviously i made sure to skip that one 🙄

Every time I get an email that is clearly written with generative AI, I want to gouge my eyes out. Especially when it’s from a creative!!

I pause my film adventures every December just to do Christmas movies and last year I noticed for the first time insane amounts of AI art but also Suno-driven songs in about six or seven movies. I know, not true “movies” per se, but it’s an instant 0.5 stars on LB for me, and rage for what’s coming elsewhere

Like didn’t you wanna go to school to experience what it’s like to be a director?

Who are you to control how they make their art? Especially independent filmmakers from marginalised groups who have historically been denied funding to tell their stories, so have to find any way to realise their stories. You want film to continue to be the playground of the rich nepo babies. Ai had allowed filmmakers from Africa and Asia to tell their stories. So if you want to use the threat of “not reviewing your film” to shame people from allowing their stories to be told, so be it. I don’t need your validation.
