Something similar happened to me once before. I was carrying groceries in both hands.. went inside my apartment to put them on the floor turned around to close the door and saw a strange man, in his late forties probably, standing at my door staring at me and checking if there is anyone else in the house. the scariest thing is that it all happened in few seconds, I climbed the stairs cause we didn't have elevator in the building.. I live in the 5th floor and didn't even hear any sounds or, any footsteps following me. so he probably was already observing me for a while, knew I lived alone and memorized my schedule and waited on the rooftop for me. I was so lucky I acted fast, I immediately went outside my apartment closing the door behind me and knocked on my neighbours, who happened to be the landlord as well.. the man escaped immediately when my neighbour opened the door and I told her to memories his face, asked her if she ever saw him before or, if he was a member of the cleaning staff, and told her what happened. she said she never saw him before checked the security cameras and found that he has been sneaking around our building for few weeks observing the apartments and acting like he was the cleaning guy.. and started hovering around my apartment and stalking me a week ago. she gave his pictures to the police but, we never saw him near our building afterwards.
