Ezekiel 23:20 has been my go to the past couple years whenever I see someone reading Bible verses on a livestream, only happens once in a blue moon but it's pure gold every time

my girlfriend is a practicing christian, has gone to church her whole life and has never actually read the whole bible. i’ve read two different versions all the way through and im an atheist and i think it’s really interesting that there are so many christians who haven’t actually read the book the base their entire life on.

It's genuinely so funny watching them try and do a bunch of mental gymnastics to either ignore or justify it lmao

One of the ones I like to quote to them most often is exodus 21:20-21: ‘anyone who beats their slave with a rod must be punished if the slave dies as a direct result, but they are not to be punished if the slave recovers after a day or two, since the slave is their property’. How kind of god to allow the slave owners no punishment as long as they don’t die, truly a benevolent king worthy of worship

My favorite is telling them “so he gave us his idea of free will… so basically giving pedofiles and sex traffickers permission to do what they do and then be forgiven for it” I get blocked

“Now why would you ask me to read that” Why not? It’s YOUR Bible, if you agree with it you shouldn’t have any qualms about the psalms

cuz they will say “context” or “metaphor” unless the direct text says something abt who they can hate or what they can or cant do then suddenly theres no context needed or metaphors huh? ur quick to follow that one..😭

and its a "bible study".... so why dont they read it and then research and study the cultural history and the reasons as to WHY the scripture says it???? they just go "oh i didn't like that one, moving on!" like isnt the whole point of study to go in depth? 😭
