I can see how someone that might be a sex offender and rent an Airbnb next to a school that has like a friend that’s never been arrested in it how that could happen with that said my old neighborhood had the HOA had a rule against Airbnb‘s, it was like no short term rentals you could rent your house out, but they had rules to that too. You had to live there for two years Before you could rent it out as a long-term rental no short term rental they would find you for short term rentals and I think a couple of people tried to do their houses in Airbnb that HOA was ruthless and they went after them in court. I don’t know all the details so please don’t come for me. I just remember that happens because my point to that with the neighborhood was like what if we go out of town and our friends come stay at our house you know would you consider that a short terminal and they told us yes the HOA was awful

What is your take on airbnbs in neighborhoods with HOAs? Genuinely curious as they are popping up in my neighborhood due to AI data centers being built, with one being a nextdoor neighbor.

Do ALL guests have to do that though? Plus people bring unauthorized guests all the time.

I literally don't own an air bnb and do not have the money to travel and stay at an air bnb but these videos always suck me in!!!

I appreciate you putting them in rural areas. Our used to be quite neighborhood is now overflowing with loud music. Yesterday was Tuesday and a house was blaring music playing cornhole for hours. They have wrecked our peace.

I don’t have an issue with short term rentals, but my HOA has been approached several times on whether anything can be done about them. (Spoiler: there isn’t).

Yeah, I have five properties and I’ve never had a complaint in five years. You have to keep control of your guests and who you’re renting to so there’s never an issue in the neighborhood so that comes back on the owner always

We have one on our street, and there’s most definitely a lot of illegal activity happening there. Not just women solliciting, but a lot of “deals”. (I live 30 min from the french border). We have a one way street and I’ve been blocked from driving out at 6AM from a deal happening in front of my car.

I think there also needs to be a specific conversation on what Airbnb’s do to gentrify a neighborhood. Especially if we are specifically talking about Hartford, and other local tourist cities in New England, or any major city for that matter.

I will say i agree with not all Air BNB’s can be in neighborhoods but I will say i actually went to an incredible air bnb that was in a neighborhood where it was a lower level apartment turned into an Air BNB and the owner lived upstairs in the main building so there are exceptions

The only issue with that background check system if I'm understanding it is it wouldn't pick up on crimes pleaded down or crimes that take place after the initial background check (not sure if they re-do the check every time a guest books another stay).

We had an illegal Airbnb in our small gated community. HOA rules is no Airbnb or short term rentals, city law is also no short term Airbnb, minimum 30 days by city law. I tired to complain to Airbnb but they did not care. They made it impossible to file a complaint about the listing. Only way we got rid of them was a costly attorney to go after the home owner and taking away gate access code. I felt bad but we locked the people out coming to stay and towed cars illegally parked. They folded and sold.

I totally agree that not every house has the potential to be an Airbnb and I think it would be on the owner to make sure the guest know the neighborhood rules like quiet times and parking and who to talk to if there is a conflict this is a great topic for discussion

If you put an Airbnb in my neighborhood, I’d make the guests stay feel like the Conjuring. Wouldn’t leave them alone
