@connecticutbyneel: 🍂 Abandoned ruins, a stone tower, and fall colors all in one Connecticut state park. Camp Columbia State Park in Morris, Connecticut was once a Columbia University summer field camp for engineering and surveying students. Today, wooded trails lead past historic remains and the old Instrument House to a 60 foot stone water and observation tower you can climb, with beautiful views over the surrounding fall foliage. Here is everything you should know before visiting 👇 📍 Google Maps: Camp Columbia State Park 🏡 Location: Morris, Connecticut 🚗 Public parking is off Route 109 near the park entrance 🥾 There are about 3 miles of trails through the park and state forest 🗼 The stone tower was built in 1942 as a gift from Columbia’s Class of 1906 and served as both a water tower and observation tower 🪜 DEEP currently describes the tower as climbable, but always follow any posted closures or access signs 🍁 Fall colors are showing around the tower now, and the view from the top looks out over the surrounding foliage 🏚 The Instrument House is one of the surviving structures from the former Columbia camp 🎓 Columbia used the property for decades to give engineering and surveying students practical field experience 🪖 During World War I, Camp Columbia was also used for military training, including trench digging and simulated combat 🕒 Open from sunrise to sunset; vehicle access begins at 8 AM 🐕 Dogs should be kept on a leash Important: Regulated hunting is permitted in the state forest portion of Camp Columbia. Wear bright orange during fall hunting season, stay on marked trails, check for ticks after hiking, and respect all posted signs around the historic structures and tower. Search “Camp Columbia State Park, Morris CT” on Google Maps for the exact destination. One for anyone looking for Connecticut fall foliage, historic places to visit, and things to do in Litchfield County this fall. 🍁🗼 #ctvisit #connecticutcheck #connecticutlife #connecticutoutdoors #morrisct
