@nicolesnutrition: The kind of variety your gut will obsess over 🫦 Variety is key to feeding healthy gut bugs and digestive health. But what matters more than one day, is getting variety in across the week. Some of my favorites: •Edamame - fiber + plant protein, which can support regular bowel movements and provide fermentable carbohydrates for gut bugs to thrive. •Avocado - fiber, potassium + monounsaturated fats that promote healthy digestive function. •Chickpeas - fiber + resistant starch, which can be fermented by gut bacteria and produce beneficial short-chain fatty acids. •Microgreens - A more concentrated source of polyphenols and sulfur - a building block for antioxidants. •Bone broth - Rich in collagen/glycine that support the gut lining and great for cooking your grains/rice in! •Ginger/turmeric - Supports gastric motility and digestion and with compounds with anti-inflammatory effects. I wasn’t always at this point. When I battled with GI issues and painful bloating the last thing I wanted to do was add something into my meals that could trigger me for days. But by working on the underlying causes of those symptoms, managing my thyroid health, developing healthier routines with nutrition and exercise, I was slowly able to build back in diversity and not feel restricted with my food choices. So instead of my “safe” chicken + broccoli meals I’m eating seafood, steak, whole grains, nuts, seeds, garlic and plenty herbs/spices Your gut doesn’t need a perfect or restrictive diet. It needs a diverse one. Save this as your reminder to add a little more variety to your plate this week! #guthealth #digestiontip #womenshealth #ibs #holistichealth
