Average hourly rate in California for a therapist right now is between $175 and 200. $1200 is the "I am wealthy, have expectations, and want higher reassurances for discretion." (which all therapists are legally bound to). I get that its a bit and - given how much he also says therapy has helped him.... (sigh) its one of those questionable lines with comedy. Who doesn't get the bit and is it causing damage against an important/valuable profession? Have worked with some high end colleagues, highest I've heard is $500/hr for concierge therapists at call 24/7 (which is nuts and not healthy). I have a specialization and probably wouldn't charge more than $300/hr for those cases. It's a bit. Two bears is a good modern odd couple. As a professional in the field, I worry (not just with you guys) about the people who aren't getting the bit where it reinforces the stigma.

Everyone seems to always be upset about how much other people make . We get upset to pay the Plumber $400 to fix the leaky sink. We get upset to pay the therapist $150 to fix our brain. I’m trying to understand what we’re upset about. People are helping us fix problems.

It’s exactly how it works. They’re just like regular doctors. Why would they fix you? If they solve your problems, you stop going to them and they stopped getting your money. Therapy is a con.
