the one that killed me was when I was working in a mechanic shop. older man said, "my wife and I could never have kids, and she passed last year. I feel like if we had a son, I would have liked him to be like you." i cried silently the rest of the shift. he didnt know it, but i grew up without a dad.

my husband was telling me about how on a job site he found one of the newer guys on the crew (who was in his late 40s) crying behind one of the work vans. my husband sat with him and this guy proceeded to tell my husband (who’s 23) about how his addiction to substances made his wife and kids leave him and he was trying to get sober and prove to them that he could be better for them. he had been clean for 6 months at that point. he got fired over something stupid and he relapsed and ended up dying not even 2 days later. my husband and i went to his funeral. i don’t even think there was 6 people in total there. it made me so incredibly sad and i think about him often. 🙁

I seen a post about a month ago where it said “that coworker that talks so much goes home to no one to talk to.” That hit me like a truck. I never looked at it that way because I have a family to go home to but not everyone does.

Young men…listen to the older guys on your jobs. They are trying to save you from the mistakes of them not listening to the old guys 20 years prior.

I don’t work construction but I am the youngest one that works in the shop when I tell you, you will not find better people they may pick on you or call you names or talk crap with you. You will not find better people to trust and when you need them, they will help you.

So real on the "I don't get along with my son.." my work dad, who has known me for five years now.. hearing him talk about his boy with teary eyes to go on to say "I'm sorry, I just can't talk about this with anyone else". It breaks you. He looks at me like his daughter and I couldn't be more grateful. ❤️

Always talking to my friend at work about his ex wife and how she went down a path of addiction. Losing his wife to drugs fighting for his daughters custody how it’s impacted him. It’s hard to listen to that because you realize one day that could be you. I always sit down with him and let him say his piece he deserves a friend.

Ain’t gonna lie this made me tear up cause I’m in the work rn. 24, still young and hear this stuff all the time from my mentors. World and women are harsh on us. We just want to make everyone happy and live up to the “man/father/husband/son”.

I’m 21 female and worked in the plant since I was 19. We have a guy that works in our building every now and then and he’s 60, super talkative but he’s so sweet. About a week ago I was on a stacker and he walked up and started chit chatting with me and said “don’t get wrapped up in these boys” and I said “oh trust me I don’t plan on it” and he said “I’ll tell you why. Years ago my daughter had this boyfriend and she came home running through the house yelling “dad help, help me” and I could barely understand her so I took her to the hospital and she died 2 days later. The doctors and nurses wouldn’t tell me what happened. When I left the hospital and pulled into my driveway there were cops waiting. I got out and they said “sir do you know what happened to your daughter” I said no she just died and no one will tell me anything”. The cop said her and her boyfriend were fighting and he hit her in the rib and it broke a piece of her rid and punctured her lung. He said “I could walk into the police station right now and have him locked up for the rest of his like but I was always taught not to inflict more grief on a person than I need to. That would cause him and his family grief and I couldn’t do it. Instead I gave it to God. All I asked God was not to let us ever cross paths. But one day he will have to answer to God. I give it to God”. When I left work that day I cried in my car because that may be one of the most powerful story’s I’ve ever been told and it changed me forever. To be able to let go of such a hurtful thing and just let God take care of it. Now I grew up religious but stopped serving God years ago. I was hurt, angry, and wanting nothing to do with anyone. But God spoke to me through that man that I barely knew and I hope one day I could be as strong as him.

The trades are not for the weak and it doesn’t only affect the man or woman doing the work and clocking in it’s tough on everyone around them but at the end of the day the world needs us regardless of if they know it or not we build their house’s, keep their power on, keep the water running, so on and so on and there’s no better feeling than knowing that you helped at the end of the day regardless of if it’s recognized or not we’re all brothers and sisters at the end of the day and we are all we need
