The more I read the harder of a read it became 😭 its So inappropriate and lowkey it kinda did feel a little dehumanising? Im not sure what word Im looking for but it felt icky because like you said he is a real person and the way he was described just felt weird af.

This!! I also felt like the article kind of put female hockey fans in a bad light, as they are put as people who only watch it because of the shows, while we are trying to lose that stereotype.

aside from the blatant misogyny and grossness and invasivness towards macklin, i think the interview was just approached from such a bizzare angle. and i think it’s completely reasonable to want to see more personality from young stars esp when it originated from themselves (ie matthew schaefer, connor bedard, etc) but there is a much more tasteful way to do it. i wish the article talked about genuinely interesting aspects, like highlighting the lulu sponsorship and the fact that he has a stylist now, things that you don’t really see from older more seasoned players. especially bc of how good the photos are and how ppl are talking about it- if we want personality from athletes THAT is how we want it to be done

the only reasons those shows should’ve been mentioned is to highlight the general public’s renewed interest in hockey. between heated rivalry, off campus, and the 2026 winter olympics, it’s been getting a lot more attention and bringing new fans into the sport

I feel so bad for the kid. The author of the article wrote it as if he was drooling over Macklin…and you can tell from Macklin’s responses that he was extremely uncomfortable with the weird and prying questions.
