I think a lot of people see people talking about the gods or mythology from medias (pjo, epic, etc) and immediately assume they can't separate it from the actual religion - which is a problem, but we focus so much on it that we, too, make the same mistake

as someone who's been observing the weirdness on generally alternative religious spaces on social media, I can say this does come from a desire of sorts for Hellenic Polytheism to be taken as a more serious religion I'd say. It just confuses me that Hellenic Polytheists go after people who are in the mythology fandom and fandoms of Greek MYTHOLOGY inspired medias in order to do this but idk. There's also the false equivalency of Hellenic Polytheists using "but if people make stuff of abrahamic figures..." which confuses me further because 1: people do make art of abrahamic figures and people also do call out bad depictions of those figures (hazbin hotel...) and 2: most of these medias such as PJO, Epic, Hades are using the MYTHOLOGY as a basis and not the actual religion itself. And since the gods in the religion aren't their mythological versions in which these medias use, the media versions of these figures are just a really diluted figure of the original being. idk this is just my 2 cents on a religion I don't participate in but

I remember someone got mad at me bcs I said I was a fan of Artemis like??? Am I seriously not allowed to appreciate a goddess that has brought me so much comfort and safety when I was in a dark place in my life??? Not to mention that I did in fact want to worship her at one point and I have the huge respect for the religion

I loves Greek mythology first ever since my freshman class did a lesson in it for an English project and then learnt about Hellenic polytheism felt like that would be a great religion for me and it’s sad that the Greeks can’t even do their own religion

I keep my interest in Greek mythology media seperate from the religion. Also it could just be my anxiety talking but sometimes it feels like I'm being a bad person for worshiping this religion even though I'm not Greek and I know people in actual Greece can't even worship their ancestors religion. So I guess I'm just really trying my best to not just respect the religion but also the culture and the history.

genuinely hated the idea that us as a religion cannot separate religion from media. because yes i get the gods aren't like what they are in pj or epic but that doesn't mean i cannot enjoy the fandoms. yes I like worshipping ny gods but it doesn't mean i don't like reading how a book depicts them even if its inaccurate as long as I don't take it seriously. anyways I love this rants it needed to be brought up.
