@pbsnews: Hailed by some as miracle drugs, GLP-1s have surged in popularity in the past few years. An estimated one out of every eight Americans is now on some version of them, and scientists continue to research new potential uses. But with that rapid expansion, there’s a growing list of questions and skeptics. William Brangham reports for our new series, GLP-1s: Reshaping America. #pbsnews #pbsnewshour #newshour #news #health #glp1 #weightloss
Food noise should be its own icd diagnosis. People who don’t know this feeling can’t understand how the silence feels.

This was a good series, but I wish they had talked more about those of us who were *already* doing the "right" things with no result. Metabolic dysfunction is real and obesity is a complex disease. GLP-1 medication made my hard work finally show results. Far too many people mistakenly believe that patients on GLP-1 medications are just lazy and looking for an easy solution or that somehow, you just take a weekly shot and don't have to do anything else to lose weight. None of that is accurate.

I find it interesting that so much scrutiny is heaped on vaccinations that have a proven history and we forge forward with GLP one drugs that we don’t fully understand their side effects and long-term implications. We are such a shallow society.

Zepbound gave me permanent gastroperesis, despite not having diabetes, very low dose, and doing all the right things. It’s horrible. Dr’s can’t figure out why I still have it even though I discontinued the medication a long time ago. 😔

the journalist is right though, science needs to catch up a little bit. im still interested in how GLP-1s could aid those with PMOS (PCOS formerly) and the issues that causes with weight management.

Constipation was horrible. 14 days, 14!, without a movement. And long term issues remained. So unworth the risk.

Great series! Can't wait to see the rest. Currently tapering off GLP1 because it made me numb and bored with life and completely removed joy from most things. I do LOVE the anti-inflammatory and the reduced food and alcohol noise but it wasn't worth it to me if I can't enjoy life. We need to study how it affects the brain because there is something going on there with serotonin or dopamine or something.

I credit it with me being able to control drinking. Decades of struggling with alcohol use disorder and now, I can take it or leave it.

As a diabetic who struggles with an eating disorder, my glp-1 finally helped me manage my diabetes and stop obsessing over food. I'd been on an early version for years but the newer modes are vastly improved. ♥️The side effects can be bad, but as a diabetic it's helping me choose life.

I am taking it off label for psoriatic arthritis and it has helped immensely; I saw a difference in less than a week. But, I had already resolved food noise through intuitive eating years ago and now I think about food more than ever. I have days where I don’t want to eat at all, but if I do that I feel terrible because our bodies need nourishment. I have lost the hunger and fullness cues I worked so hard to identify after years of dieting. Still navigating to decide if it’s worth it.

GLPs treat insulin disorders. They are the closest thing to a treatment for PMOS that has existed in my lifetime.

I am diabetic. I had to fight with my insurance this year to have coverage. I went from Metformin, glipizide, & both forms of insulin to ONLY using diet, exercise, and a GLP-1 to control my diabetes. I now have an A1C of 5.6

they won't stop pushing that one me. I said no thanks. I said if all it does is help you not feel hungry so you eat less shouldn't I work on my own self control or what's the point? and they are still pushing them... I've lost 10lbs on my own since I started trying.

I take a GLP one for diabetes. Every other drug that my doctor had put me on failed. But the GLP one has succeeded. Weight loss wasn’t even a goal, though I’m very happy that I have lost weight. Technically I should be on the full dose of 7.5 mg. I’m still on 5 mg. The reason is because my A1c came back to normal, and I was actually concerned about losing too much weight. I increased protein and fiber in my diet the way my doctor told me too, and I’m doing activities to build muscle mass. For me, the rare risks of complications from this drug are vastly outweigh by the benefits.

Sounds great but kind of strange there’s all the surprising positive side effects, was that not studied or known? Wasn’t this found during the decades of research? What else is unknown about these drugs?
