So they’re entry-level but yet you’re saying they want experience that’ll make any sense. This is why nobody can get jobs.🤣

Let me chill the excitement, after 30 years of railroading I will inform you the truth.. First of all your rest days will be on Tuesday and Wednesday and you’ll be working third shift or second shift for about 10 or 15 years. It’s likely you’re gonna have to move several times in my road career. I’ve lived in five states and when I didn’t live in five states working in the engineering department, my commute was about 500 miles one way to work and I was gone for anywhere from 4 to 17 days at a time . You’re gonna miss birthday parties Christmas Thanksgiving Easter kids recitals sometimes childbirth because you’re on a train and you can’t get off. You’ll most likely never know your children’s friends what’s going on at home that last goodbye to your dad They have a saying it doesn’t rain on the Railroad because you’re gonna be working in rain sleet, snow hell wind and if you’ve seen the TikTok videos over the summer with the Canadian wildfires, you’re gonna drive that locomotive right through the middle of that shit. The general public’s not gonna like you for the most part cause you’re blocking the traffic slowing their commute down, you’re gonna have to deal with transient trespassers, bums immigrants, and yes, train robbers . If you’re lucky you make it 30 years and not a 2 time divorced alcoholic then you might be like me I made it 27 years and 10 months and after working for years and chemical plants around diesel, exhaust fumes and brake dust I’ve stage four cancer. When a disease sickness are injury occurs consider your career abruptly over account unable to perform duties. Take a look at all the lawsuits against all the different Railroad companies over cancer. Check your facts before you sign the dotted line. Hundred thousand dollars a year salary you won’t see that till five or six years into your career make sure you save because your health’s gonna go to shit before you’re 50. You’ll spend more time cry, more laugh more with your coworkers and you will your family because you’ll never be at home. On my first day in 1995. I was told to come in every day expecting not to get to leave are to get laid off.
