I work in the lab, and we typically get maybe a 3% merit increase each year, but we haven’t received a cost-of-living adjustment in over three years. We’re also not allowed to work overtime anymore, so if we have to stay late to help due to also being short staffed, we’re expected to make up for it by cutting hours from another shift. Our merit raises are actually on hold right now for some reason, and there have been so many budget cuts lately. We’re kind of being led to believe that it’s because of the nurses’ strike and that the money for their raises has to come from somewhere. I can imagine that this is probably creating a lot of resentment toward nurses throughout the MGB network, especially among other departments that are also essential to patient care but aren’t seeing the same increases.

I’m a nurse in MA and have been looking at getting another job in Boston, just wondering what other hospitals make MORE than MGB nurses. I don’t think that’s true. But overall I hope it all gets solved and you don’t end up having to do this!

Boston RN here (not Brigham) and no matter which details I agree or disagree with, I respect and admire any group’s willingness to advocate for themselves and not back down when intimidated by hospital leadership 💪

Why are you going back on strike when you just had such a big strike? Are you doing something differently where you are expecting a different result? Completely support you guys; I am just trying to educate myself.

I think the other point is that MGBW sets the bar for pay throughout the state. The pay set by partners makes other hospitals raise their pay to compete for skilled nurses. This helps all nurses in the state. MA allowed the merger of MGH and BWH and created a problem for the whole state, where patients have fewer choices and employees have fewer options. Partners knows how powerful they are and are banking on people thinking the nurses are being selfish. But this kind of collective bargaining helps all healthcare workers and improves care for patients across the state eventually. Stay strong!

More like the highest paid nurses in the world for a job that requires a 2 year associates degree. 5% increase is insane. The reason why the nurses don’t leave and go get another job is because you can’t find other higher paying jobs. You nurses are so out of touch with reality. Im sick of paying high medical costs and it starts with overpaying medical providers. If inflation is 3.7% and your raise is 5%, you are getting richer!!

honestly all Mass hospitals should go on strike. The nurses here are severely underpaid compared to COL.

MGH got more than a 5% raise on their 20 STEP pay scale THE DAY after we voted yes to strike. It’s about breaking the union it’s not that they don’t have the money.

Isn’t it a 5% step increase along with a 2.5% annual cost of living ? Please be transparent
