@cast.iron.cpr: So what’s the deal with a lye bath? Lye is one of my favorite tools for cast iron restoration when I’m dealing with years of baked-on seasoning, grease, and carbon buildup. It doesn’t remove the rust — that’s where electrolysis comes in. The lye bath is doing a completely different job: breaking down all that old organic buildup so I can get back to the actual iron underneath. This one spent 24 hours in the tank, and the difference is pretty damn impressive. No grinding. No sandblasting. No trying to muscle years of carbon off with a wire wheel. Sometimes you just let chemistry do the heavy lifting. 😂 Lye for carbon. Electrolysis for rust. Different tools, different jobs. #CastIronRestoration #LyeBath #CastIronCleaning #RustRevival #CastIronCPR
