We use more water for almonds than data centers.

Most data centers absolutely do NOT have closed loop systems. That is easily researched. So now I wonder what your agenda is, because it's not informational.

y'all crying about data centers about the biggest water wasters are lawns. lawns in suburbs. lawns on sports pitches. lawns in parks. lawns on golf courses. this AI hate is so forced

You do realize China is already using seawater to cool AI data centers, right? They've literally built data centers underwater. Obviously saltwater causes corrosion, nobody's denying that. That's why they use sealed systems, corrosion resistant materials and heat exchangers. The seawater doesn't actually touch the servers. It's called engineering. Just because there's a problem doesn't mean we haven't figured out a way around it.

Jon Kraetschmer :
So here’s my question. Why do they require water In the first place? There are thousands of different cooling type systems capable of performing the job without the continual use of water. Take IO coolers on desktop systems. Yes they have water inside them but it’s a closed loop system. Not requiring refilling. But more over, there are chemical compounds that can be used that produce immense cooling properties and would be much better suited for the job.

Cause new ones don’t. They are a closed loop. Just like the radiator in your car. Fill it once. That’s it.

more than half of data centers are open loop so most aren't closed loop also the video doesnt really answer the question. if data centers used exclusively waste water then they wouldnt need to draw from public sources and the water would still have to be treated when it comes out

You’re just going to skip right over the evaporative cooling that is becoming common place for these newer large scale AI data centers?

I just want to point out that Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Facility has used salt water for decades for cooling. So that blows up that argument.

Pretty sure we can't drink cleaned industrial water because no one trusts companies would follow the regulations to maintain the water quality. We still have companies "accidentally" dumping waste into the wrong water supply then denying it so they don't have to pay for cleanup.

love your videos, yes, data centers dont use water like agriculture, they are a closed loop cooling system like you said. Also if they have enough power they don’t require any water. -working on a data center project now…
