Am I the only one who doesn’t mind silverfish at all? I used to get them at my old apt and I just let them coexist they do no harm at all as far as I know

Diatomaceous earth is nontoxic and kills critters like roaches and silverfish.

I have them, the people freaking out in here are really obnoxious - they may do a little damage to the glue, and they look disgusting, but really it’s fine. They don’t really cause much damage in reality

I get moisture absorbers from dollar tree and stick them in my bookshelves behind my books. I’m always so shocked how much water is in them after a month or two 😅

Your home has high humidity. Use Baking soda and sugar - Mix into powder and sprinkle around base boards and dark corners. They’ll go away. Dont fret.

My condolences. Silverfish are one of my top fears. They make me nauseated. I’ve always lived in humid areas and I’ve always had them to some degree so tbh I kinda just pray every time I open a book that’s been sitting on a shelf for a while.

I was going to mention freezing your books, but everyone beat me to it. But one thing I’ll add is to use cedar wood blocks. It smells wonderful and keeps moisture down, and the smell repels most critters including silverfish. There’s a reason the best closets and bookshelves are built out of cedar.

My husband once caught a house centipede, read they eat silverfish and then released it under our bathroom vanity. We didn’t see silverfish for a few years after that. 😂

🗣 FREEZE THEM
wrap each book in a plastic bag and out it in the freezer for 2 hours!! it will kill all pests and their eggs!!

I got them in my library of over 1,000 books 😭. No books were damaged but we pulled all the books out vacuumed the shelves and ledges and the books then put cloves in satchels and tucked them on the shelves to deter them moving forward

You are not going to like this. Aside from tossing them- Bag them all up and seal them tight, take turns freezing them (unless you have a deep freezer to freeze them all at once.) find ways to dehumidify, if you cannot use a dehumidifier they have charcoal satchels and gel tubs, place them near moist areas. This is the part you may hate- consider sealed bookcase with doors for the future and hide satchels of bay leaves in there with them to deter any from coming back to the source.

If you find silver fish in your home, your home might have high humidity which is bad. I recommend getting a air dehumidifier which will

Check every single book first. Clean your shelves. Get a dehumidifier and buy silica gel packs to out behind around/on/behind your books. Game changer! You can also use cedar blocks!!
