It is a myth. You have to be in extremely dry weather for there to be a spark between the metal on the gas pump and the opening in your tank. It’s so stupid. If you live in the south or anywhere where there’s the slightest bit of humidity, it’ll never happen.

any car built and sold in the US after 1996 will be fine... after the Chrysler recalls in that year, a ground was installed... the nozzle itself is also grounded so theres simple electron transfer between car and nozzle...
