@abc13houston: The opinion stated that school district police departments were not the appropriate agencies to receive reports of suspected child abuse, based on a new law passed in 2025.
What sense does this make when they are as qualified if not more qualified as the officers employed by the county and city? They attend the same police academy and take the same TCOLE exam for licensure

I 100% agree about conflicts and I don’t trust districts to handle this. I don’t get why it’s hard to get the city/county/precinct involved.

So what’s the point of an ISD police dept?

I also agree they will keep it quiet. Why? Because they 're in-house, you need someone that actually can arrest people. And put them away and be able to present charges to the district attorney. And he can send them to the grand jury if necessary. If not, then it should definitely be the local authorities outside of the school district. Their renticops, people, they don't do anything, you can't really do anything they call the real cops

Did you see what’s funny about this? All they don’t allow school police to investigate, but yet a teacher can call child protect the services, ominous to let them voice their concern of a child being abused. Think about that one one without a law background, and one with law background the one without can drop a dime, but the one with the law background cannot investigate in schools, encourage teachers to do this and guess what happens to that teacher drops a time they get recommended

Schools cover their butts....they don't even be reporting everything so it don't show up when you look them up. This should have already been law so there's no conflict of interest.

it takes special training to take these kinds of reports. A lot of school police are the last kind of people you want handling sensitive cases.

Look at all these comments advocating to keep child abuse on the hush and out of the hands of law enforcement and CPS 🤪 no wonder our schools are overwhelmed with behavior issues instead of being able to teach and some children’s living situations at home are not on anyones radar until something really terrible happens

If ISD police have the ability to have jail privileges…they should have the ability to at LEAST start the ball rolling on the investigation. SMH.
