A little nuance in the fatty liver space. 🤎 First, I want to be clear: this creator is actually someone I follow, and he shares SO much great advice. I genuinely appreciate the education he puts out, and this isn’t about discrediting him or tearing him down. I simply disagree with this particular take. I agree that portion sizes matter. I agree that balance matters. And I agree that choosing nutritious foods is important for metabolic and liver health. But I don’t agree with making people afraid of rice, tortillas, or entire food groups when they receive a fatty liver diagnosis. The research on grains and MASLD is more nuanced than “grains are bad for your liver.” We have clinical research showing benefits from whole-grain-focused diets, and current liver-health guidance emphasizes overall dietary patterns, metabolic health, and sustainable lifestyle changes—not blanket bans on individual foods. Can a meal be better balanced? Absolutely. Can excess calories and a diet high in refined carbohydrates and added sugars contribute to metabolic problems? Yes. But there’s a difference between encouraging balance and creating fear around food. As someone who has lived with a fatty liver diagnosis since 2021 and worked hard to improve my own liver health, I want people to feel empowered by nutrition education—not overwhelmed by another list of foods they’re supposedly not allowed to eat. We can respect creators, appreciate their work, AND respectfully disagree when the evidence calls for more nuance. 🤎 Let’s make liver-health education evidence-based, sustainable, and free from unnecessary food fear. 📚 Research: • Dorosti et al., 2020 — Randomized controlled trial on whole grains and NAFLD. • He et al., 2020 — Systematic review and meta-analysis of food groups and NAFLD. • AASLD, 2023 — Clinical practice guidance on NAFLD #FattyLiver #MASLD #NAFLD #LiverHealth #EvidenceBasedNutrition
