Afghanistan has its own rich Dari language and cultural history. Dari is closely related to Persian, but it has developed its own identity, vocabulary, expressions, and literary traditions over centuries. Sometimes I wonder why many Afghans feel the need to identify their language so closely with Iran or modern Persian when we have our own beautiful linguistic heritage. If we truly value our Afghan identity, we should also value and take pride in Dari. The more we respect, speak, preserve, and develop our own language, the richer and stronger it will become for future generations. We don’t need to look elsewhere to find value in our own language—we should recognize and appreciate what we already have.
