Texas birthed one of the most conventionally liberal (liberal in New Deal terms) presidents (LBJ). It’s also the home of Ralph Yarborough, Barbara Jordan, and Anne Richardson. Then again, California brought us Nixon and Reagan.

Texas is also a money sink. If it truly starts being a purple state it’s going to completely change politics/campaigning as we know it. That argument about the EC means you need votes from all states immediately gets weaker as a purple Texas makes it the main chess piece on every board. Since Republicans rely on PAC $ more having a campaign war ever 4 years in TX is going to ruin their war chest

I've been waiting for this for 30 years. Once Texas turns light blue it'll go solid blue quick (much like Virginia did). Turnout has been shit in Texas for decades because so many felt their vote didn't matter. Similarly if Texas gets fair districts after the 2030 census it will remake the House.

Texas was blue in my formative years. I remember when we had Ann Richards - saw her speak a couple of times as a college student, and she was amazing and hilarious. We can get there again. I know it.

An even bigger danger of losing Texas is that it's a big engine to push culture war stuff much the same way California is a way to swing consumer standards. If Texas becomes competitive, it's much harder to launder Heritage Foundation ideas through the Texas school systems purchase of textbooks that warps publishing trends.
