@littlebearoutfitters: There’s a difference between someone loving who you are and someone loving what you do for them. And when you’ve spent years being the dependable one, that difference can become surprisingly difficult to recognize. Psychologically, we can develop a sense of worth around our usefulness. Being the person everyone counts on brings appreciation, belonging, and a sense of purpose. Over time, those feelings can become so closely connected that we begin to believe our place in someone’s life depends on what we contribute. And that’s where things get complicated. Rest starts to feel like laziness. Saying no brings guilt. Having needs of our own feels inconvenient. We become so accustomed to being the person others lean on that we forget relationships are supposed to offer support in both directions. But being needed and being valued aren’t interchangeable. Healthy relationships make room for the person who has nothing left to give that day. They allow us to be tired, uncertain, imperfect, or simply present without requiring us to earn our place through another act of service. This doesn’t mean helping others is wrong. Generosity, dependability, and caring for people are beautiful qualities. The problem begins when we believe those qualities are the price of being loved. Think about a tree. We appreciate its fruit, its shade, and everything it provides. But when winter comes and its branches stand bare, the tree hasn’t become less worthy of its place in the forest. Neither have you. Your value doesn’t disappear when your ability to give changes. 🐾 Little 🐻 Bear 🐾 #BearInMind #SelfWorth #HealthyRelationships #PeoplePleasing #emotionalwellbeing
