As a trauma specialist: yes. You can heal trauma without consciously addressing it in therapy etc - like a traumatized dog can slowly heal when it comes to live in a loving kind safe patient family. It’s the safety of that new environment that slowly rewires and newly imprints the old trauma loops. Healing through safety. However, one can also self-initiate the healing process without waiting for an external safe environment… that’s where we need to get the trauma out of the somatic/physical body and the nervous system where the trauma is often stored as well as out the emotion and mental body as well often the ancestral body (when we carry trauma programs epigenetically for our lineage and or our culture). Trauma has layers and can only truly heal when we address all layers where aspects of that trauma is being held and stored - also clearing issues like: “what’s the worst thing that could happen if I now longer where to carry that trauma?”

You can function. But healing…no. Your body stores it deeper than you think.

I hide for 26 year that I was SA by my brothers, I was so good at hiding it that I was still talking to them and “having a brotherly relationship with them “and at my now 40 after a stomach virus i started with anxiety and everything just come out, I used to have flashbacks every day but I will ignore them, now i cut my ties with them, I im in therapy, I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism and I’m still living with this anxiety, i don’t know what else to do i don’t want to take lexapro because it can damage more too,I feel lost and lonely and I fear for my husband and kids, I wish I can magically make money apear so if I died or something they won’t have to deal with monetary difficulties, I feel like a burden.

I had a mental breakdown at 18, one at 30, another at 39 and the most recent at 41. I have not healed the trauma and don’t really know how or if i ever will. I will just try to enjoy those moments in between the times it gets too much.

So trauma is the response to the event not the event itself; is what I hear him saying.
