A string of dead bodies discovered around New England has true crime fans flocking to social media to discuss a potential serial killer. A Facebook group, called "New England Serial Killer," grew to more than 26,000 members all discussing their theories about the possible killer. In Narragansett, Rhode Island, police brought cadaver dogs to Scarborough Beach after a tip circulated online from a member of the group claiming multiple bodies could be buried there. The search turned up nothing. In Groton, Connecticut, police recently identified human remains found near a cemetery as 58-year-old Suzanne Wormser. Authorities arrested her roommate, 68-year-old Donald Coffel, and charged him with murder. At a press conference Friday, Groton Police Chief David Burton emphasized the killing was a "targeted crime" and not the work of a serial killer. In Springfield, Massachusetts, 45-year-old Meggan Meredith was found dead along a bike path this week. Authorities said the investigation remains open, but there is no indication the case is connected to any larger pattern. In Salem, Massachusetts, police discovered two bodies in the woods. Authorities later arrested Jay Blodget and charged him with two counts of murder. Officials said there is no evidence tying Blodget to any other killings. In Killingly, Connecticut, skeletal remains were recently entered into a national missing persons database. Again, police said there is no known link to any other deaths. Despite repeated reassurances from law enforcement, anxiety remains high among some residents. Authorities continue to urge the public not to spread misinformation online.
