@maxi.sensa: 🚨 Tayebwa Clashes With Ssenyonyi Over Sovereignty Act: “We All Own the Law” Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa cut off Leader of Opposition in Parliament Joel Ssenyonyi during a heated parliamentary debate after Ssenyonyi blamed the Protection of Sovereignty Act for fuelling economic uncertainty and discouraging foreign investment. Ssenyonyi linked the Act to the weakening shilling and reduced foreign inflows, arguing that investors may fear being labelled economic saboteurs. But Tayebwa pushed back, insisting that once Parliament passes a law, it belongs to the entire House—not the ruling party or opposition. “When we make resolutions of the House, they become resolutions of the House, including those who agreed and those who disagreed.” Tayebwa said MPs opposed to the legislation should seek changes through a private member’s bill rather than distancing themselves from the Act. “Once we agree and we pass a law, we all own it up.” Ssenyonyi maintained that Parliament’s decision did not erase the objections raised by MPs who opposed the law. Enacted in May 2026 after major amendments, the Protection of Sovereignty Act regulates foreign agents and funding involved in influencing policy. The law remains a major point of contention between government and opposition, with its alleged economic impact now adding fresh fuel to the dispute.

NRM goons pushed for the passing of the sovereignty bill into the law, targeting HE Kyagulanyi Robert Ssentamu and the entire NUP, forgetting that it has to bite all Ugandans irrespective of political belonging.
I think my fellow villagers who elect NRM MPs without first thinking the repercussions thereof are feeling the heat as the price of every commodity is almost doubling.
