The RBA governor should resign over this. They should be smarter than this. There is no way that can make this error.

What a boycott we would have if we knew how to organise ourselves. Imagine realising just how much power we people have.

one of the many stupid decisions this government has made. Targeting small business... I feel for all suffering from this government. I predict a complete wipe out of the labour government in the next election🤔

So it's ok for them not to absorb the cost but not for the business owner.

Small business don’t need to absorbs the cost. They can pass it onto their customers. The ATO can’t.

Of course they wont stop it at the source, the highly profitable banking sector wouldn't stand for it. Another question is; how many small businesses are using their credit cards like an overdraft, and, will not being able to utilise that for ato payments create a cadhflow crunch? leading to, in some cases, business failures.

People pay with CC to get points and benefits associated with the card. They pay it back before interest accrues . This is a tiny benefit ripped from businesses. On top of everything else this government has done this is crazy.

Right? Why do small businesses have to pay it? The banks make billions in profits and yet somehow it wasn’t banks that were banned from charging this.

@Paul Rickard820: But this is different (as Chalmers said today), “the ATO can’t set the cost like business can”…hold on…didn’t he also say, “credit cards should be treated like cash”…oh yeah, let’s not forget the”we just saved Australians 1.6billion”..they’re muppets…

The surcharge ban is imposed by the card schemes. This was the way it was back in the day. And merchant facilities aren’t cost less. Ban revenue on it, no one will offer merchant facilities.

Do you really have to ask? Look who owns the majority of the source then you’ll understand why the government are doing what they’re doing. Small businesses are an easy target who can’t fight back. The real people who will pay for this is the consumer.
