This is why I loved community college. I went to 2 separate universities as well as community college. It used to piss me off so badly that my university professors assumed our occupation was “student”. My CC professors assumed we had jobs/families/other obligations and respected our time in a different and very noticeable way.

yesss i so agree with you, the more that i grow up the more i realised that people lack the basic consideration of other people’s struggles 😭😭 and ppl asking why i don’t enjoy uni and i say it’s bc of the people ITS GENUINELY FOR THIS REASON

There was an SRC (School Representative Council) member at my uni who said poverty is a result of ignorance and irresponsibility. She also said people should just save and if they are poor, they shouldn't enjoy the things that rich people enjoy e.g alcohol, going and eating out etc. It baffled me because how are you in a leadership position in an academic institution and you think about social issues like that😭

overheard a convo between a girl and a guy. she asked him what he does for fun. he says it depends on how packed his schedule is with work and school. she says omg you work during school! what do you do? he says i have two jobs. she deadass said why don’t you quit them to have more free time? LIKE PLEASE

This is the thing though… working more than one job to afford things isn’t normal. It’s wrong on so many levels because it leads to extreme burnout. This is not talked about enough.

I’m telling you they will look you dead in the eye and say “why do you need to work” just tell your boss you can’t come. UMM HELLO I need my job to come to school. People are genuinely so slow and stupid sometimes 😭😭😭

my Political gov professor gave extra credit to students who stayed throughout the whole class I started the chain reaction because I left after filling out the attendance sheet that was passed around because I had to leave for personal reasons. Mind you he never gives extra credit.

college kinda took me out of my bubble, its public so we had everything from students who never needed a job to student that would miss class because they didn't have enough money to get there

I was soaking to a friend and she noted that it was weird to have showers in the 24hr library and I had to tell her that it’s for people who may be homeless so they can shower and keep their dignity if they stay in the library and she couldn’t comprehend that uni students could be in situations like that

Like I travel back and forth to university and 80% of the time , I only have money to travel to school and back. No lunch/pocket money what's so ever.

and its crazy how they shame you for going to a "lower ranked" university or community College when for alot of people going to post secondary is a feat in itself. most people can barely afford the living costs much less worry about getting into a "higher ranked" university. I hate academic elitism so much.

I remember one day at college a girl came in to an academic course run party and she was so timid and sweet!! Our professor had her sit down and she grabbed some food. She talked to everyone at every table and asked questions 🥹 It somewhat hit me that some kids may come to these events just to get some food… I made sure to say hi to her everytime I saw her.

i love parents who help their kids through uni. because i feel bad and honestly repulsed seeing uni students overworked and stressed and barely making ends meet cuz their parents dont give them a dime, when many of these parents absolutely can help

As someone who was blessed to have parents fortunate enough to help I still was required to pay my own rent, groceries, and everything else so I was always shocked when people thought I was weird for saving money or having a job or mad when it came to TA hours or class project meetings I couldn’t go to bc I had to work
