There was a guy in an HOA that was required to build a fence to hide his boat.. So he built the fence and then painted a full size picture of his boat on it. 👍

I got charged $300 in my old HOA for putting up my Christmas lights one day early. Found out it was a 1 time charge so the next year I put them up a month early because 300 for 1 day felt like too much.

I lived in an HOA. The first rule was, before you could report a neighbor, you had to approach them in person and tell them what rule they were violating. If it wasn’t remedied, then you could make a report. The rule really made you think about if what you were reporting was really worth your time and energy, so much so, no one ever reported anything. I thought it was great.

I live in a HOA…have for 11 years. However collectively everyone decided to pretend we don’t and so….while on paper it says HOA….there is no HOA. This was how it was explained to me by the prior owner when we bought the house…I worried he was lying. He was not. So other than the yearly sponsored block party and the volunteer landscaping….🤣 Individual properties can look like the secret garden if they want.

Bat house and ham radio antenna. Both large, obnoxious, and federally protected. And the bats will help with mosquitoes

They put a black strip of electrical tape on the mailbox if you’re a day late with your fees… I went around the block in a rain storm, removing them and then taped the Presidents mailbox shut… they stopped that but I am always a day late out of spite, still.

not all hoas are like this just know that if its crazy expensive, they probably are like this. I live in a neighborhood with an hoa. I only pay $250 for the whole year and all they do is make sure my house doesn't look abandoned, fix pot holes, and refill the doggy trash cans with doo doo bags. my friend lives in an hoa that costs them $2500 for the year and she gets fined if she puts a small flag in her yard.

I work in this industry. The level of petty is out of control. People get on the board because they have no power or authority anywhere else in their lives, and rule over their little kingdoms like a third world dictator. 😒
