@joshfraseryoung: Grief isn't something you "get over." It's something your brain and nervous system slowly learn to carry differently. When someone becomes part of your daily life, your brain literally builds them into its predictions. It expects their voice. Their messages. Their presence. So when they're suddenly gone, your brain doesn't instantly update. That's why grief can feel physical. Why it comes in waves. Why your sleep changes. Why you reach for your phone before remembering. Your brain isn't malfunctioning. It's trying to adapt to a reality it never wanted. Healing isn't about forcing yourself to move on. It's about giving your nervous system enough safety that it can slowly accept what your mind already knows. That's exactly why I recommend a full nervous system reset. Not because it takes grief away. Nothing can do that. But because when your body feels even a little safer, grief becomes something you can carry instead of something that carries you. Small daily practices. Gentle nervous system regulation. A little more steadiness while your heart heals.
We lost both of our adult children 1 yr apart. Totally unrelated. Our daughters. Our only children. it's been 2 and 3 years. I cant believe or accept it. I. My heart constantly is breaking. zI can't figure out how to function or live now. I am so destroyed and numb. I cant figure out my place or how to live now. My husband is not doing well physically. We'll Im not either but he is very sick now

The loss of pets lights up pathways in the brain on an MRI scan that are unique to pet owners (no one else has them) and light up in the same area next to that which is triggered by the loss of a child.

Anticipatory grief and secondary grief have many of the same affects. Having gone through it with both of my parents that dealt with prolonged illness, it is all very hard to navigate. With the help of a good grief counselor, you learn it’s okay to lean into the grief with tools to help you process and cope along the way. There are going to be very big feelings and emotions that can make you feel like you are losing your mind. You are not! Your mind and body are just trying to process and reconcile what you never imagined possible. I had faith in my counselor which allowed me to be vulnerable and process what was I thinking or how I was feeling. She explained everything that was enumerated in the post. Life is complicated and messy. We are not built to carry this kind of grief on our own. BE KIND TO YOURSELF. Give yourself some grace and just do what you can when you are able.

this is so me about my son. next month is 4 years gone. Then Easter this year I lost my bonus mom & closest friend I ever had. I only knew her 3 years but she was everything to me. I feel guilty crying for one or the other, my stomach is always sick. Sleep is a rare thing. I don't know who I am anymore

I had to put my cat down and I knew her time was up about a month in advance. when the day came and for about a week before I could hardly breathe. The thought of losing her was too much. I did absolutely everything to make her comfortable in the last few months of her life even if it was to my disadvantage and I'm glad I did all that for her. so I can relate to most of the points.

Psychic medium here. Our loved ones who pass on are happy to see us laughing again after loss. My deceased soulmate brought my current partner to me. He told me where to go and which day to go to a restaurant and who to talk to and that’s how I met my current partner

Grief is an ancient process and the body knows how to heal but it is one h3ll of a ride. My primary loss was incredibly painful but all those cultural secondary losses have been the hardest for me to process longer-term. I am a very changed person as a result. I see my life in two unequal halves, one before loss and another still in its infancy.
