I went to Antica Macelleria Cecchini in Tuscany, and I have to admit… this guy knows how to put on a show. For €50 per person, you get an 8-course steak menu with free-flowing wine, which I actually think is great value. Some of the meats were incredible, while others didn’t really do it for me. I skipped the wine because I was there for the meat, but if you enjoy wine you’ll definitely get your money’s worth. Just be warned - it’s very easy to fill up on the endless bread and entrees before the main meat dishes even arrive. The whole experience runs for about three hours. You arrive at 7pm, get the chance to take photos with Dario Cecchini (the iconic moustached butcher) I won’t lie though the first hour was a bit of a drag. We spent around 30 minutes waiting outside, followed by another 30 minutes inside before being seated and served. If you’re not particularly interested in all the theatre and ceremony, I’d honestly just rock up a little later. Overall, I’d definitely call it a tourist trap but one that’s reasonably well done. The food is fine, the atmosphere is fun, and for €50 it’s hard to complain about the value. Would I go back? No. Was it worth doing once?
