You might believe that revolutions are the starving poor rising up against the rich. But they almost never are. The people with absolutely nothing are usually too busy surviving to organise anything. Revolutions are led by people who have some education, some security, and just enough status to realise the system has hit a ceiling. Lawyers, journalists, officials and students. In other words a version of the middle class not peasants straight out of the fields. In France it was men like Robespierre, Danton, and Marat. In Russia it was lawyers, intellectuals, teachers, and writers. When a society produces more ambitious, educated people than it has room for at the top, pressure builds. The old elite gets torn down, a new one steps in, and the people at the bottom usually stay right where they are.
