@politicalparalysi: Suella Braverman was born in London and says she isn't English. Asked on Question Time what does make someone English, she wouldn't say how far back the ancestry has to go. If ancestry decides, who counts? #Reform #UKPolitics #Englishness #QuestionTime #PoliticalParalysis
Ancestry all day long, I'm 43% English 20% Breton 25% Scottish Welsh 12% Irish, I identify as English Celt 👍

In my opinion being “English” comes down to many things, for example birth place, where you live / were born, citizenship but also heritage, ancestry and culture. So I’d say shes English in some ways and not English in others. Dont see why this is controversial

This attempt to make ethnicity the test of nationality is a creeping evil. Nationality and ethnicity are NOT the same thing.

Do you remember that program where people who were against other nationalities all took DNA tests???? It showed pretty much all of them as having ancestry in other parts of the world … that would be interesting to show if in her view how many “English” people there are here

as somebody who has known multiple people who have parents who were not born in the UK, I would say that I’d consider those people British more than anything because they have no ancestral ties to England so therefore they’re not English their British obviously to me I feel like I’d consider somebody English if their parents were born in England and they were born in England if they were heritage from other countries I think that makes sense 😅

why can't we just have a pledge of allegiance like the US where you commit to the country - if you are prepared to honour the rules and fight for the UK proudly call yourself Brisish

As someone else says it’s not really about her identity or otherwise it’s opening up this tired debate and emboldening racists.. I don’t think I identify as English either if I am being honest partly as I wasn’t born here but I do belong here and so do many others. Thats what reform want ppl questioning and thats the issue

I've traced my ancestry back to the 1700's. I have english, Scottish, Irish, french, but before that, it goes to Norway. I have never considered myself English, I am British. I have served in the British armed forces, and the British fire service.

Reform often talk about “ foreigners not assimilating “ And here we have one of their own not doing just that. She was born and raised in England yet refuses to call herself English. 😂😂😂

Sadiq Khan was born in London and he identifies himself as a British Pakistani so are you going to tell him he’s wrong, he’s a racist?

It depends on what comes first. You skin/tribe/religion and ethnicity or your country. Take Lammy for example. pretends he is British or English yet calls for reperations that would destroy the UK. So clearly by my criteria he is black first and foremost and actually anti British. Where he is born is irrelevant in his case. Compare that to Kemi born here like a lot you see where mum travels pregnant and delivers in UK so barely born here, Nigerian untill 16 yet personally on current evidence 100% British, her country comes before her Ethnicity. The black people calling her a coconut are ergo not English.

every ethnicity form you've ever filled in said White - English, Scottish, Welsh and Irish. You clearly have to be white to be English. There is no Black - English category.
