In my opinion, if you invite people to a party or funeral, you should make proper arrangements for them. You can’t expect people to leave their homes, attend an event and stay there for hours without food or somewhere comfortable to sit. That’s why things like meals, canopies and chairs are provided—not necessarily because of the person who died, but to take care of the people who came to pay their respects. That’s just my opinion.

Like celebrating the death of that person over their life. It's Nonsense, unless they spend the money to support the bereaved bcos It's wholly useless to the deceased.

They don’t spend money because of the body; they spend it because of the memories that person created while they were alive. Most people who passed away were well taken care of during their lives, so it’s usually not about the money—it’s about the memories they leave behind.

I actually agree with this. My issue isn't with giving someone a dignified burial or gathering briefly to mourn. My question is: why do we attach so much unnecessary spending, partying, clothing, food, drinks and ceremony to a dead body when that same money could have been used to make the person's life better while they were alive?
We often say we are doing it “to honour the dead,” but the dead person can no longer benefit from the money being spent. If you truly loved and valued someone, wouldn't it make more sense to show that love when they could still see it, enjoy it and benefit from it?
And this is why I also question the expectation that mourners must be fed. Someone has come because you are grieving. Why should your grief now come with the additional responsibility of catering for everybody?
Mourn the person. Bury the person with dignity. Honour their memory. But while they were alive, spend the money on them, care for them and make their life better. That is the kind of honour they could actually experience.
