@lilas_193: I’m always asked why I chose gentle parenting for my kids, while there are many reasons, the biggest one is I wanted to be who I wish I had when I was younger. I wanted my children to feel seen, valued, respected and loved. I wanted them to feel like home is a safe space to be who they are, to learn, to make mistakes, to grow and a place to feel comfort when everything else is heavy. I’m not perfect but i know I’m still making a positive impact for them, even when I make mistakes. My only wish is that when they look back on their childhood, their memories are full of love, joy and peace. #parenting#gentleparenting#HealingJourney#childhood#parentingtips

I have a 12 year old that still can't tie his shoelaces. I give up.

For Number #1, by the 5th "why", they're most likely not even listening at that point.

i dont punish them for asking why. but i emplore them to not ask it 30 times in a row. we are human, we get annoyed it happens. but i never punish them for it

my daughter one night dropped her plate on my carpet floor and judging by the sound I knew it broke she immediately started to panic like I was about to scold her or something I've never yelled at her for such things I rarely raise my voice to begin with I had to calm her down after making sure she was ok I reassured her that its just a plate we have plenty more

In my opinion Sharing is A PRIVILEGE for the person being shared with, its NOT A RIGHT. it shouldn't be MANDATORY. no child should be made to feel ashamed for not wanting to share something with someone else because sometimes it's better not to. sometimes some people aren't trust worthy to share things with whether they won't give it back or it becomes damaged in their care or they loose things. instead you should teach your child what kind of people are trust worthy to share with and who isn't and that their belongings are exactly that THEIRS and they don't have an obligation to share something especially if its special to them.
I say this from personal experience I was five and my most prized possession was a stuffed dog from kings dominion I LITERALLY took that dog EVERYWHERE and slept with it every night. (ive come to the realization that I believe it was so sentimental to me because it was 1 my very first trip to kings dominion and it was the first trip I took where it was strictly just my mom and I, I had also always wanted a dog and it came with a fake least so in my little imagination at times it was a real dog) I ended up LOANING it to my aunt who I was very close with because she was moving out and wanted something to "remember me by" and to "still feel close to me" she said it would only be for a couple weeks. well a couple weeks came and went and more weeks passed and she still hadn't give it back. and I finally told her wanted it back and she said she wanted to keep it for good "because she missed me" I wanted to give her a different one but she said she didn't want a different one and she made me feel awful for wanting it back and me being a 5 year old and her being an adult I caved. my mom was pissed and went off on her but she still never gave it back, Ive never gotten it back I cried for over a month, she said she felt bad but clearly not enough to ever give it back. she completely damaged our relationship after that and I never trusted anything with her again she showed me her promises mean nothing and don't trust everyone with your things. my mom had tried to warn me before but I was 5 and thought "she's my aunt why shouldn't I trust her?"
