i work in this field. best scam (meaning most ridiculous story someone actually believed) is when an old lady wanted to send 4k to a turkish cello artist who's currently touring around europe. he has sent her a bentley as a gift and needs 4k to pay for the customs. oh, and they're also apparently getting married.. in my experience lonely people are desperate for some company and unfortunately believe just about anything

When people call my job because they got a phone call from a number that showed on the caller ID as our company but it wasn’t actually us. Yeah they spoofed our number. No we can’t do anything to stop it
