Over the years, she’s had plenty of adventures, including a 58 year marriage, raising four kids, and becoming a grandmother to six grandchildren. Right now, she’s busy making and holding signs in a centrally located park in New York City. She’s deeply concerned about what she sees as the erosion of our country under the current administration. Don’t get me wrong, she has never been politically active beyond faithfully voting in every election. Instead, she spent decades following my dad from one military assignment to another, raising our family along the way. Once her youngest child turned five, she went to college, earned a degree in chemistry, and went to work. Service has always been at the center of her life. She has volunteered as a chairside dental assistant, with Habitat for Humanity, in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), at Rivington House caring for residents with AIDS, and as a foster parent specializing in newborns. She has made rubber band bracelets for children’s hospitals, handcrafted Hawaiian leis as graduation gifts, trained with the Peace Corps in Thailand while in her 60s, and participated in an intergenerational program that brings together high school students and seniors over 65 through Zoom conversations. There’s not much grass growing under this senior citizen’s feet. #nycnanapicketsigns
