@takingcare_ofgranny: She still loves to eat. But I’m so intrigued by the way that she eats now. The brain is a fascinating muscle! Dementia sucks. #fyp #caregiver #dementia
i think i commented before that it could be perseverative behavior, i see it a lot as a nurse. instead of the normal sequence of scoop food → bring spoon to mouth → swallow → repeat, the person can get “stuck” on one part of the task. some people i’ve worked with just repeatedly lick an empty spoon! but also i see people commented it could be a visual issue, and that could be true too! also feeding apraxia— the person may know they want to eat and physically be able to move, but their brain has trouble remembering or organizing the steps needed to eat.

I’m not gonna lie I do kinda the similar thing with scrapping it all to one corner and making sure I get it all 😂 but as far as I know I don’t have dementia…..(no hate at all btw!) I’m happy she is still eating good!! Love y’all 💚

Is that a toddler spoon? Is it because she has problems gripping?

It’s ok. Doesn’t matter why she scrapes her plate. She eating and enjoying herself. God bless her and your family. Be thankful that she is eating. I know the struggle of “ am I doing everything right?”

It’s a generational thing. That generation was taught to clean their plates. She’s reverting back to her childhood.

With dementia (what I see ) they tend to do repetitive things that where done in the past .

Hi,I'm Heather 😊 :
I agree with the depth perception and the different colors also. She knows what the white plate is associated with and food's darker color she sees,so she knows the difference. She has a good appetite,so she's cleaning her plate like the other person said🥰

Both of my parents did this and they did not have dementia or Alzheimer’s. They just grew up in the depression. My sister and I tend to do this. Also, I think it’s just belonging to what my parents called the clean plate club. Don’t leave anything behind.

The answer is pretty simple. As dementia progresses they revert back to childhood and children used to be told to clean their plate before getting up from the table. She is trying to scrape all the little bits together. Focusing on all the whys only causes you more worry and its really not an issue.
