@cory.carrme: Slayer were an American thrash-metal band formed in California in 1981 by Kerry King, Jeff Hanneman, Tom Araya and Dave Lombardo. Alongside Metallica, Megadeth and Anthrax, they became one of the defining bands of the 1980s thrash-metal movement. Their music was exceptionally fast, aggressive and dark, with lyrics dealing with war, death, Satanism, violence and horror. Their breakthrough came with Reign in Blood (1986), a short, relentless album widely regarded as one of the landmark records of extreme metal. Songs such as “Angel of Death”, “Raining Blood” and “Postmortem” established their reputation for pushing heavy metal's imagery and subject matter to extremes. The band were frequently accused of promoting Satanism or Nazi ideas, although their lyrics generally used such imagery to explore or depict horrific subjects rather than straightforwardly advocate them. Slayer remained deliberately uncompromising for decades, becoming known for their intense live shows and confrontational image. They released influential albums including South of Heaven (1988) and Seasons in the Abyss (1990), survived numerous line-up changes and continued touring until their farewell tour in 2018–19. Their legacy is that of a band that helped take heavy metal from hard rock into something considerably faster, darker and more extreme. #slayer #metallica #metalmusic #thrashmetal #classicrock
