Pawtucket, R.I. – October 7, 2026 Early Wednesday morning, after covering an accident in East Providence, I came across a large Pawtucket Police operation. The beginning of my video is shaky because I was still getting situated and didn't know what was happening. I later learned officers were executing search warrants connected to a September 24 shooting on Mineral Spring Avenue. According to Pawtucket Police, the shooting occurred around 3:37 p.m. and left a man with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was hospitalized and has since been released. Detectives identified two Pawtucket men, Kavon Almeida, 21, and Jaevon Gomes, 21, as suspects. Both were arrested Wednesday morning as officers from the Special Response Team, Narcotics Unit and Major Crime Unit served warrants at two locations. Both face: • Assault with intent to commit a specified felony (attempted murder) • Discharging a firearm during a crime of violence • Firing a firearm in a compact area • Two counts of felony conspiracy • Conspiracy to commit a misdemeanor • Disorderly conduct Police say the investigation continues and more arrests may follow. Both men are presumed innocent unless proven guilty. BEHIND THE FOOTAGE: Other occupants of the residence were present but are not shown in my video. This is what I call old-school, boots-on-the-ground journalism. Sometimes I come across police activity, spend time documenting it and learn there's no significant story. Other times, like this one, I happen to witness an operation involving two suspects wanted in a serious shooting. Ever seen the movie Nightcrawler? My ethics and approach are very different, and I don't sell footage to major media outlets. But the idea of getting out into the streets, following leads and capturing events firsthand is part of what drew me to journalism. Press releases are important for verification, but reporting shouldn't end there. There's value in showing up, observing and asking questions rather than simply repeating a statement. Sometimes the story comes to you. Other times, you have to be there to find it. #Pawtucket #RhodeIsland #BreakingNews #fyp #police
