Archaeologist who works out in the deserts here! The first flake you picked up was a nice basalt simple interior flake! I didn’t see any evidence of a utilized edge (but I couldn’t see it very well). Most likely it was flaked off early in the process of making a biface which is a pre tool and used for trading. :)

Its soo cool that Trash + Time = Artifact. Just thinking about the people who lived there thousands of years ago. They fell in love, told jokes, had good and bad days.

Hi archaeologist here!! Leaving everything where you found it is amazing, especially bc (I’m assuming) you don’t own the property you’re on! One teeny tiny nitpick is that the Wild West era artifacts wouldn’t be what we’d consider “ancient,” those would be historical artifacts and, depending on the age of the worked stone, that may also be historical rather then ancient; Historical is a specific period of time and its exact dates vary depending on location!

Are you sure they’re ancient? I think they’re actually just ancient, but I may be wrong, it could be ancient instead, or maybe they’re more along the ancient lines from ancient times, but you may be right, they be ancient instead….. I’ll have to look up my ancient history to see if they’re actually ancient instead.
