yes it is definitely an issue but there are no revenue streams in these communities no businesses it's quite crazy but Park Forest nice homes but those taxes are outrageous

Definitely driven by racism. South suburbs, Park Forest in particular pay a disproportionate amount of property taxes. In addition, we don’t have (m)any businesses, and we have SEVEN school districts! If we could consolidate and just have a PF district, our taxes burden would significantly drop but these other communities where PF kids attend, don’t want to lose that tax revenue so they won’t ever allow redistricting.

I wanted to buy in the south suburbs a condo which was priced for 150k taxes were 6k. That would've been a 2k mortgage

I believe it is an issue with the village and the county. Park Forest could be great. The mayor needs to go. He is one of several reasons why businesses don't stay. Businesses can't thrive here, so they go to Tinley Park or Orland Park or Homewood. Plus, they still use well water, constant power outages,bad foundation under homes, school districts need improvement, etc.

There was only one person that I know of who held meetings in regards to our property taxes otherwise it doesn’t seem like ANYTHING is being done! My neighbors just moved because of the taxes

My mother who is 83 years old, her mortgage went from $892 to $1700. She gets everything exemption possible. There is no grocery stores, no real businesses, the high school closed. The infrastructure is completely deteriorating under the homes. It’s absolutely criminal.

I have had my townhome in CCHills for over 20 years. My latest tax bill said my taxes has increased over 100% since I purchased it. Two years ago, my mortgage DOUBLED due to taxes/escrow. Nearly $7000 in taxes for a townhouse?! Ridiculous…

This is exactly why Chicago needs to take over the south suburbs just like Los Angeles did their suburbs. Towns still keep their names , but have city police, fire, schools & much lower property taxes.

I live in Park Forest and the taxes are killing us. But remember we had Sears, Marshalls Fields, Jewels, Dominick’s, Pizza Hut, cleaners, ice cream shops. Laundry mat, McDonald’s. KFC, Taco Bell and so much more. It is all gone. PF was built for WWII Veterans and is a very old town. Our pipes are old and cost a million dollars a mile to replace. But we are a food desert and forced to shop in Olympia Fields, chicago Heights etc

I am SO glad someone threw a spotlight on this!!!! I was raised there. My parents moved because the taxes kept going up. I bought my first house there at the other side of town 70K for that house. my taxes skyrocketed in 5 years. I should have never bought that house. of course I moved. Mostly only rentals left there now. Sad. yep they r killing their own residents. of which? soon they will have none.

bought our house in Homewood in 2017 for $82k. 2bd 1bath, 952 sqft. 2017 our taxes were just shy of $4,000. We will pay just over $10,000 this year.

I live in Park Forest. Our taxes are astronomical. I had 2 homes and had to sell one of them because of the high taxes. Our Village is being missed managed and we have basically no businesses.

They have no revenue. There’s nothing in Park Forest to subsidize the taxes for the residence. I work for community action agency and we did an affordable housing project out in Park Forest with a couple of the houses to help people getting to home, but the homes are affordable it’s tax. They have to solicit businesses to come open the park to relieve the resident of the burden of all the tax.
