Dylan Guenther's overtime winner in the 2023 World Junior Championship gold medal game is one of the most iconic golden goals in recent Canadian hockey history. Playing in front of a home crowd in Halifax, Canada had built a 2-0 lead over Czechia before the Czechs stormed back with two third-period goals to force overtime. Czechia's Jiří Kulich lost the puck crossing Canada's blue line, allowing Canada to quickly transition the other way. Guenther got his stick on it and redirected the puck into the open side of the net, instantly ending the game and sending the Canadian bench pouring onto the ice. The goal gave Canada a 3-2 victory and its 20th World Junior gold medal, while Guenther finished the night with two goals and an assist. It was also his third point of the game and capped a tournament in which he recorded seven goals and three assists in seven games.
