Caramelized Onions Patty Melts Ingredients 1 lb Ground Chuck (80/20 ratio) 8-10 thick slices of classic caraway rye or sourdough 1 large yellow onion, thinly sliced 6-8 American cheese slices 3-4 mozzarella cheese slices 20 g butter + 10 g olive oil (for onions) 40 g softened butter (for toasting) Salt to taste Black pepper to taste 1/2 tsp garlic powder 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce For sauce: 60 g Mayonnaise 20 g Ketchup 10 g Yellow Mustard 15 g Sweet Pickle Relish 1 tsp vinegar 1/2 tsp garlic powder Salt & Black Pepper to taste Method: Caramelize Onions: Sauté sliced onions in butter and olive oil over medium-low heat for 25-30 minutes until golden. Stir in Worcestershire sauce during the last 2 minutes. Set aside. Cook Patties: Form ground chuck into oval patties matching your bread shape. Season with garlic powder, salt and pepper, then sear in a hot skillet for 3-4 minutes per side until a crust forms. While hot in the pan, top Patty #1 with American cheese, and Patty #2 with American and mozzarella cheese. Let them melt. Assemble: Toast the bread slices with butter until golden brown. Lay down slice 1 of bread spread with sauce. Add Patty 1 (with American cheese), followed by a layer of caramelized onions. Place bread slice 2 (sauced on both sides) right on top.
